Twelve Tribes Interview
Winter 1999 | Mutant Renegade Zine
I finally got a chance to sit down with my friend Adam and Alex to talk to them about Twelve Tribes. The group Twelve Tribes consists of Adam (vocals), Alex (drums), Jason (bass), Steve (guitar), and Andy (guitar). It was a cool experience since this is my first time doing an interview. Everything was laid back and went smoothly.
CFS – How did you come together to form the band
TT – We’ve all been in a lot of bands before and they usually just never work out. All of us thought that it would be good to come together to accomplish something, kind of like being successful and not having to go through a lot of bullshit. Andy and I (Adam) started it, and we’ve had about 8 different people in the band, but Andy, Jason, and I are the original people.
CFS – How would you describe your music?
TT – It’s hardcore, but like metal type music. There’s very few hardcore parts in all of it, but it’s more or less metal, emotional music more that anything else. It’s not like Skid Row Row or something; it’s kind of like Pantera. It’s good stuff.
CFS – Have you been on tour at all?
TT – Yeah, we went on tour with Poison the Well, a band from Florida. Touring was really exhausting even though we were only out for a week. It was fun going to different places and meeting different people.
CFS – How do you like playing shows around here?
It’s weird to play shows in Dayton because we know everyone and their our friends and everything, but they just stand there. It’s like even though they like you and everything its like nobody expects anything for anybody around here. What was your best show?: Our best show was when we played with Overcast, but the Poison the Well shows are right up there too. When will your new LP come out?: It will be out by December, but you won’t be able to order it till January because that’s when it comes out in the magazines. We’re under Eulogy records and its called “Sa Feathers to Flowers and Petals to Wings.
CFS – How do you come up with lyrics (Adam)?
TT – I write stuff about girls, and stuff about real things that happen. I write songs about devils and angels because of the bands that have injluenced me. But most of the time I just write about girls because they’re the biggest things that fuck with me ( I also write songs about Jason Gilmore.just kidding.)
CFS – What kind of movies do you like?
TT – Old karate movies, japanamations, action movies, horror..porn–just kidding.
CFS – What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened on tour?
TT – We went to Canada to see Niagara falls and the border police asked us if we had drugs, guns or knives. We told them no and we were there for about an hour while they searched both cars and went though the trailer. We won’t ever play there, unless they ask us.
